The Strakka Estate

Founded during the period of Venetian rule in Cyprus approximately five hundred years ago, it made its debut on Abraham Ortelius’s map of 1573. The Estate has maintained an unbroken tradition of olive oil production ever since.

Situated near the medieval walled city of Nicosia, with views of the Troodos and Kyrenia mountain ranges, the Estate was acquired by its current owners, the Leventis family, in 1942. It covers around 50 hectares (124 acres) of land, with 8,200 olive trees and over 2,000 citrus trees.

The Strakka Estate’s production of olives and citrus fruit is entirely organic and is certified by the Lacon Institute.

Unveiling Olive Oil Artistry

The Strakka Estate has its own two-phase olive mill and bottling facility, meaning the entire production process happens onsite. The olive oil is stored in airtight stainless-steel tanks until it is ready to be bottled.

The process is designed to minimise the time between the harvesting and the cold pressing of the olives (to a few hours), and to reduce unnecessary exposure to external factors such as air, heat, light and water, that can degrade the oil’s natural properties.

This results in an outstanding olive oil, including our early harvest product that is rich in polyphenols.

Nurturing Nature

Organic Farming

Organic agricultural produce is the basis for producing healthy and high quality organic products. Legislative authority has laid down all regulations for the production, processing and labelling of organic products in the Organic Regulation, Commission Regulation (EC) No 834/2007 and the accompanying guidelines hereto, Commission Regulation (EC) No 889/2008.

Points of interest:

1. The Departments of Biology and Chemical Engineering of the University of Patras closely monitor the quality control and assurance in all steps of the its cultivation & production.

2. The soil is not cultivated, remaining undisturbed to allow the enhancement of micro-organisms in the soil as well as the tree roots. The trees are carefully managed to establish maximum growth and healthy, productive olive trees.

3. We only produce high quality organic extra virgin olive oil with increased polyphenol content. Strakka Ltd established in 1953, owns now the organic olive orchard, where harvesting, milling, and bottling of olive oil is done on the premises.

4. Strakka olive oils satisfy the E.U. Health Claim (Commission Regulation (EU) 432/2012) for enhanced health protective properties that states: Olive oil polyphenols protect blood lipid from oxidative stress. The beneficial effect is obtained with a daily intake of 20g of olive oil.
